INTRODUCTION

In the field of English language teacher training and professional development, ICTE-UQ has had extensive experience in the design, development and delivery of programs.

ICTE-UQ offers programs catering for both practising overseas English language teachers at primary and secondary levels, and for people requiring a pre-service qualification in teaching English to adults and secondary students. A range of programs have been undertaken in collaboration with government instrumentalities, institutions and educational corporations in Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Australia.

The Institute's involvement in the field of pre-service qualification training since 1992 is as follows:

  • Registered centre for the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL) Certificate in Teaching English to Adults (CELTA) - four - five times per annum.
  • License from the School of International Training (SIT "World Learning") in Vermont, USA, for delivery of SIT TESOL Certificate in Australia and selected countries in Asia.
  • Delivery of English teacher professional development programs for the Ministries of Education in Thailand, Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong and Indonesia. In addition, since 1993 ICTE-UQ has regularly delivered up to four English & Methodology for TESOL Purposes courses a year for groups of primary and secondary school teachers of English from overseas.
  • The ICTE-UQ Director was appointed as one of three international representatives on the University of Cambridge English Language Teaching (CELT) Advisory Council in 1997, which meets as a Council in Cambridge, UK, twice a year. The ICTE-UQ Director was appointed as the first "international" Chair of the CELT Advisory Council in 2001.
  • Lecturing and tutoring on the University's Graduate Certificate in TESOL/Post Graduate Diploma in TESOL.
  • Administration, observation and evaluation of the Practicum Placement for students enrolled in the University's Graduate Certificate in TESOL/Post Graduate Diploma in TESOL.
