ACTIVITIES

ICTE-UQ has a full-time Activities Officer to ensure that students and program participants are able to make the most of their time at ICTE-UQ. Activities are a great opportunity to meet other students and to explore Brisbane and South-East Queensland. Students can choose to join in one of the many regular scheduled weekend group activities or book their own independent or small group activities.

AIRPORT PICKUP

Airport pickup is available on request for a fee of $85 (incl. 10% GST). Students will be met at Brisbane International or Domestic Airport and taken to their accommodation or to ICTE-UQ (during working hours).

ACCOMMODATION

Assistance is offered by ICTE-UQ to help students find suitable homestay accommodation. We encourage students to live with English-speaking families, single people or students, which will help them to practise their English skills and give them the opportunity to learn about the lifestyle of people in Australia.

Homestay accommodation can be arranged prior to a student’s arrival in Brisbane OR students can make their own arrangements to stay in temporary (hotel/hostel) accommodation for a few days after arrival. They can then visit ICTE-UQ to discuss their needs with the Accommodation Officers.

This information about accommodation is only a guide and students must understand that the style, costs and availability of particular types of accommodation may change within a short period of time. Some information about the types of accommodation and the average costs of accommodation available in Brisbane is given below.

TYPES OF ACCOMMODATION AND COSTS

A guide to accommodation costs follows:

1. Homestay Family (house/apartment)
   

   Single room, with breakfast & dinner provided on weekdays, and breakfast, lunch & dinner on weekends. Homestay can be booked at the same time as you enrol and is available the weekend prior to course commencement.
   
   2008 Homestay Placement Fee (non refundable): AUD$200 (inc 10% GST)
   2008 Weekly Homestay Fee: AUD$200 (plus payment for telephone calls)

   2009 Homestay Placement Fee (non refundable): AUD$210 (inc 10% GST)
   2009 Weekly Homestay Fee: AUD$210 (plus payment for telephone calls)

   To ensure that our students’ homestay arrangements are as simple as possible all payments are managed by the ICTE-UQ Accommodation Office. The following payment arrangements apply:

   • Homestay accommodation is available the weekend prior to course commencement
   • Homestay accommodation is available for a minimum booking period of 5 weeks
   • Where possible all homestay fees for the entire period booked should be paid to ICTE-UQ in full and in advance
   • Payments not made in full will incur an a AUD$50 administration fee for each additional payment made
   • In instances where a student wishes to extend their original booking period and is able to remain with the same host family a $50 administration fee per additional payment made to ICTE-UQ (for the whole extended period or per instalment) will apply
   • In instances where a student wishes to extend their original booking period and is not able to remain with the same host family the Homestay Placement fee of $200 (2008) / $210 (2009) will apply to place the student with a new host family
   • In instances where a student wishes to leave homestay early they are required to provide their host family with a minimum of one weeks notice. Any unused homestay fees will be refunded in full to the student by ICTE-UQ.

   • Self-Catering Apartments (self arrangement)
     Single or double room, use of all facilities. No meals provided. Student cooks (or cooking is shared amongst tenants). Cost $89-$120 per week plus shared costs for food, electricity, gas and telephone.
     
     

   • College/Dormitory Accommodation (self arrangement)
     Single room, shared bathroom, communal dining room, full board $280-$320 per week. Only a limited number of places are available to students who enroll for the full university academic year and students who enrol for a short period during the university holidays.

INFORMATION ON COLLEGE AND TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION

If students want to live in a college they must apply directly to the college to arrange their accommodation.
