ICTE-UQ Wins Top Industry Award

ICTE-UQ has been awarded a Queensland Government Education & Training International (QETI) Award for Excellence.

The annual QEIT awards showcase outstanding achievements within the state’s international education industry and acknowledge the institutions, projects and people who contribute to the success of Queensland’s education and training sector.

ICTE-UQ was awarded as the winner of the Best Practice in International Collaboration (ELICOS) category for its innovative “Power of Partnership” strategy, which was developed and introduced in 1998.

ICTE-UQ Director Christine Bundesen said the award recognised the role of ICTE-UQ in the provision of high quality client education, training and services.

The Institute’s “Power of Partnership” strategy is based on the development of long term, collaborative relationships with international education, government and corporate industry partners.

The ICTE-UQ partnership model operates at a unique level within the ELICOS sector, which is usually dependent on recruitment agents and individual students.

ICTE-UQ was named as the winner of the award at a ceremony held on September 10.

Award Honours for ICTE-UQ Premises

The ICTE-UQ building premises has been officially named by the UQ Senate as the Sir Llew Edwards Building (SLEB) in honour of The University of Queensland’s recently retired Chancellor.

The naming of the building is in recognition of Sir Llew’s highly distinguished service as a member of Senate for almost 25 years, including nearly 16 years as Chancellor.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Greenfield said that the building had become one of the most recognisable new structures on the St Lucia campus in a matter of months.

“The Sir Llew Edwards Building makes a statement about at least two of Sir Llew’s great passions: international education; and teaching and learning,’ he said.

A number of premier architectural and building industry awards have confirmed the Institute’s SLEB premises as a teaching and learning environment of the highest standard. Awards include:

  • Australian Institute of Architects State Awards – FDG Stanley Award for Public Architecture – top public building in Queensland Award (July 2009) “The jury described the building … as meticulously detailed and crafted, and providing a valued corner piece at this northern entry to the University campus.”
  • Australian Institute of Building – Professional Excellence Award – Queensland State Winner (May 2009), National Winner (September 2009)
  • Brisbane Housing & Construction Awards – Residential Building (High-Rise Over 3 Stories) over $60M, Health & Education Facilities over $15M & Residential Building 30-60M (July 2009)
  • Brisbane Regional Architecture Awards – Commendation for Public Architecture (May 2009)
  • Illuminating Engineer Society Design Awards of Excellence x 2 (September 2008)

The SLEB Building is currently under consideration for a number of design and construction awards at national level.
