INTRODUCTION

IELTS - the International English Language Testing System - is designed to assess language skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking.

  • The test is administered in four modules. The Listening, Reading and Writing modules take 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete. The Speaking module takes an additional 20 minutes to complete. Each candidate is allocated a time slot anywhere between 12.40 pm and 4.00 pm on the same day to complete the Speaking module.
  • The test is scored at nine levels from Non User to Expert User.
  • After taking the test candidates receive five scores: one for overall performance and one for each of the individual modules.

The Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education is an IELTS Test Administration Centre for Brisbane and surrounding regions and offers the IELTS two to three times per month throughout the year.

ICTE-UQ was proud to be recognised as the IELTS Centre of Excellence for 2005, and in 2000 was the recipient of the 1999/2000 IELTS Centre Award.

The rule of a minimum period of 90 days between tests for an individual has been removed from May 2006, allowing individuals to take the IELTS test at any time available. Results are generally available on the 13th day after each test.
