ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES: TOURISM & HOSPITALITY (ESP:T&H)
Course Overview
English for Specific Purposes: Tourism & Hospitality (ESP:T&H) is offered at two levels and is designed for students who are interested in developing their English language skills for a professional internship or working holiday in Australia, or in another English speaking country, or to improve their career prospects when they return home.
ESP: Tourism & Hospitality Course Outcomes
The ESP:T&H course enables students to:
- Improve their English language skills
- Develop English language skills for working in a range of tourism, travel and hospitality sectors
- Develop their knowledge and understanding of the tourism, travel and hospitality industries
- Participate effectively in job interviews conducted in English
ESP: Tourism & Hospitality Course Content
Course modules include:
- Integrated Language Skills: development of speaking, listening, reading & writing through topics of general interest
- Communication skills for Tourism & Hospitality: lessons are based on themes such as:
- English skills for hotel, bar restaurant and other short-term work
- Customer satisfaction
- Resumes and application letters
- Tour guiding
- Handling bookings and reservations
- Marketing and promotion
- Managing customers and staff
- Case Studies/Projects: students participate in group projects, role plays and case studies to simulate real working situations. Students develop and practise real-life English skills for working in the tourism, travelĀ and hospitality sectors.
- Guest Speaker/Site Visit: students participate in an institutional visit or receive a presentation from a specialist in the tourism or hospitality field
