ENGLISH & UQ DEGREE PACAKGES

ICTE-UQ offers English language pathways to students who do not meet the English language proficiency requirements for entry into their chosen UQ degree program.

Students who do not meet the English language proficiency requirements for their UQ degree program and require further English language training may be issued with a Package Offer comprising an ICTE-UQ English language program plus their principal UQ program.

Package Offers are issued by UQ International Admissions and will only be issued

1. where students meet all academic requirements for UQ degree program entry

and

2. where the only outstanding requirement is English

ICTE-UQ offers the following English language pathway options to students who do not meet the minimum English language entry requirements for their chosen UQ degree program.

1. English for Specific Purposes: Bridging English Program (ESP:BEP)
The ESP:BEP is an English language pathway for entry into The University of Queensland’s undergraduate and postgraduate programs for eligible students.

To be eligible for the ESP:BEP students must:

1. have a UQ Package Offer conditional on English only
2. meet the ESP:BEP English language entry requirements

The ESP:BEP is a full-time (25 hours tuition per week), ten-week course designed to bridge the gap between students’ current English language skills and those required for entry into UQ degree programs. Course content is intensive, academically focused and provides students with the specialist English language and study skills required to succeed in a UQ degree program. Students who successfully meet all ESP:BEP exit requirements on course completion are not required to sit an IELTS test at the end of the course to gain assured entry to their UQ degree.

2. English for Academic Purposes (EAP) + IELTS
Students who do not meet the English language entry requirements for their UQ degree program and are not eligible for the ESP:BEP may be issued with a Package Offer consisting of an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program at ICTE-UQ and their primary UQ degree program. The period of study required at ICTE-UQ will be determined by the students’ current IELTS or TOEFL scores.

To be eligible for an EAP + IELTS program students must:

1. have a UQ Package Offer conditional on English only

Upon completion of their ICTE-UQ English language program students are required to take an IELTS (or TOEFL) test and achieve the minimum score required for entry into their UQ degree program.
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses are offered at Higher Intermediate and Advanced levels and are designed to prepare students for success in degree program study and in the IELTS test. EAP course materials and assessment reflect the type of activities and situations students will encounter in a degree program, such as attending lectures, note-taking, writing extended essays, reading academic texts, giving presentations and participating in group discussions. Course content also includes instruction and practice in relevant grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation as well as preparation for the IELTS test.

Transfers from the EAP+IELTS pathway to the ESP:BEP are possible in instances where students are able to demonstrate through IELTS test scores (or TOEFL if relevant) that they meet the ESP:BEP entry requirements.  Transfers will be available depending on availability of ESP:BEP places.
