ENGLISH FOR INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS COMMUNICATION (EIBC)
Course Overview
The English for International Business Communication Course (EIBC) is offered at two levels (I & II) and is designed to prepare students to communicate with both native speakers and speakers of English as a second language in real world business situations.
English for International Business Communication Course Outcomes
The English for International Business Communication course enables students to:
- Write appropriate business correspondence and reports
- Actively contribute to business meetings
- Deliver formal business presentations
- Gain knowledge of current business
- Terminology and practices
English for International Business Communication Course Content
Students study a variety of business topics using modern course books. These are supported by current listening and reading texts from the media, the internet and business journals. Class exercises and
projects are based on a weekly theme such as Setting up a Business, Team Building, Negotiation, Marketing or Customer Service.
Course modules include:
- Integrated Business English Skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading & Writing skills using class activities related to the weekly business course theme
- Business Correspondence: production of resumes, letters, memos, faxes, sales and promotional materials and use of appropriate language for business reports
- Audio-Visual: development of listening skills and business vocabulary using current television programs
- Computer and Business Presentation Skills: Professional group and individual PowerPoint presentations. Computer, research and speaking skills
- Case Studies/Business Meetings: class role-play using the weekly course business theme to simulate real-life meetings
- Grammar in a Business Context: grammar instruction based on class needs
- Business Visits: external visits to workplaces and trade shows to provide students with real world business interaction (one visit per 5 week session)
- Listening & Notetaking: students attend a business lecture given by a university lecturer, business professional or business English teacher

IELTS: 5.0 (5 in speaking and writing)

Successful completion of ICTE-UQ General English Level 5/equivalent as determined by ICTE-UQ |
EIBC II |
IELTS: 5.5 (5.5 in speaking and writing)
OR
Successful completion of ICTE-UQ General English Level 6/equivalent as determined by ICTE-UQ |
